Earvin "Magic" Johnson Jr. is a retired American professional basketball player and coach. He played point guard for the Los Angeles Lakers in the National Basketball Association (NBA) for 13 seasons. Johnson is widely considered to be one of the greatest basketball players of all time. He was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2002 and was named to the NBA's 50 Greatest Players in NBA History list in 1996.

Johnson was born in Lansing, Michigan, in 1959. He began playing basketball at an early age and quickly developed into a standout player. He led his high school team to three state championships and was named Michigan's Mr. Basketball in 1977.

Johnson was recruited by many top college basketball programs, but he ultimately decided to play for Michigan State University. He had a successful two-year career with the Spartans, leading them to a Big Ten Championship in 1979.

Johnson was selected first overall by the Los Angeles Lakers in the 1979 NBA Draft. He quickly became a star player, leading the Lakers to their first NBA championship in 1980. Johnson was named the NBA Finals Most Valuable Player (MVP) that year.

Johnson continued to play at a high level throughout his career, winning four more NBA championships with the Lakers (1982, 1985, 1987, and 1988). He was also named the NBA MVP three times (1987, 1989, and 1990).

Johnson retired from the NBA in 1991 after being diagnosed with HIV. He later returned to the NBA as a coach, leading the Lakers to the NBA championship in 2000.

Since retiring from the NBA, Johnson has been involved in a variety of business and philanthropic endeavors. He is the owner of the Los Angeles Sparks of the WNBA and a part-owner of the Los Angeles Dodgers of Major League Baseball. He is also a special adviser to the president of basketball operations for the Lakers.

Johnson is a role model for many people, both on and off the court. He is a successful businessman, a philanthropist, and a loving father and husband. He is also a strong advocate for HIV/AIDS awareness and prevention.
