The CLEP Chemistry exam is a challenging test, but it is also a great opportunity to showcase your knowledge and skills in chemistry. With the right preparation, you can do well on this exam and earn valuable college credit.

CLEP Chemistry Test Format

The CLEP Chemistry exam is a 90-minute, multiple-choice exam with 80 questions. The questions are divided into three main content areas:

- Chemical Foundations (25% of the exam) - Chemical Reactions (36% of the exam) - Chemical Equilibrium and Applications (39% of the exam)

The Chemical Foundations section includes topics such as atomic structure, chemical bonding, and stoichiometry. The Chemical Reactions section includes topics such as chemical equations, reaction rates, and equilibrium. The Chemical Equilibrium and Applications section includes topics such as acids and bases, solubility, and thermodynamics.

How to Prepare for the CLEP Chemistry Exam

The best way to prepare for the CLEP Chemistry exam is to take a review course or study on your own using resources such as textbooks, online courses, and practice tests.

If you choose to take a review course, look for a course that is taught by an experienced chemistry teacher and that covers all of the topics that are on the exam. You should also make sure that the course includes practice tests, so that you can get a sense of what the real exam will be like.

If you choose to study on your own, I recommend that you use a textbook and an online course or practice test. The textbook will provide you with a comprehensive overview of the material, and the online course or practice test will help you to test your knowledge and identify areas where you need to improve.

CLEP Chemistry Review Questions

The following are 150 review questions that cover all of the topics that are on the CLEP Chemistry exam. These questions are similar to the questions that you will see on the real exam, so they are a great way to test your knowledge and identify areas where you need to improve.

Chemical Foundations

1. What is the atomic number of carbon? 2. What is the electron configuration of neon? 3. What is the difference between a covalent bond and an ionic bond? 4. What is the molecular shape of methane? 5. What is the hybridization of the carbon atom in methane?

Chemical Reactions

6. What is a chemical equation? 7. What is the stoichiometry of the following reaction: 2H2 + O2 → 2H2O? 8. What is the rate law for the following reaction: A + B → C? 9. What is the equilibrium constant for the following reaction: A + B ⇌ C? 10. What is the pH of a solution with a hydrogen ion concentration of 1 x 10^-7 M?

Chemical Equilibrium and Applications

11. What is the solubility product constant for calcium carbonate? 12. What is the pH of a 0.1 M solution of acetic acid? 13. What is the Gibbs free energy change for the following reaction: A + B → C? 14. What is the entropy change for the following reaction: A + B → C? 15. What is the enthalpy change for the following reaction: A + B → C?

Answer Key

The answer key to these questions is available at the end of this document.

The CLEP Chemistry exam is a challenging test, but it is also a great opportunity to showcase your knowledge and skills in chemistry. With the right preparation, you can do well on this exam and earn valuable college credit.
