Early Life and Career

Wayne Gretzky was born on January 26, 1961, in Brantford, Ontario, Canada. He began playing hockey at a young age and quickly showed a natural talent for the game. By the time he was 10 years old, he was playing against players who were much older than him.

In 1977, Gretzky was drafted by the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL). He played for the Greyhounds for two seasons and led them to the Memorial Cup championship in 1978.

NHL Career

Gretzky was drafted by the Edmonton Oilers of the NHL in 1979. He made his NHL debut in 1980 and quickly became one of the most dominant players in the league. He led the Oilers to four Stanley Cup championships in the 1980s.

In 1988, Gretzky was traded to the Los Angeles Kings. He played for the Kings for eight seasons and led them to the Stanley Cup Finals in 1993.

Gretzky retired from the NHL in 1999. He finished his career with 894 goals, 1,963 assists, and 2,857 points. He is the NHL's all-time leading scorer in both goals and points.

International Career

Gretzky represented Canada in international competition on numerous occasions. He won a gold medal at the 1987 Canada Cup and a silver medal at the 1996 World Cup of Hockey.

Gretzky also played for Canada in the 1984 Winter Olympics. He led Canada to the gold medal and was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player.

Post-NHL Career

After retiring from the NHL, Gretzky became the head coach of the Phoenix Coyotes. He coached the Coyotes for four seasons and led them to the playoffs in 2002.

Gretzky currently serves as an executive with the Oilers. He is also a member of the Hockey Hall of Fame.

Wayne Gretzky is considered to be one of the greatest athletes of all time. He is the NHL's all-time leading scorer and has won numerous awards and accolades. He is also a member of the Hockey Hall of Fame.
