Lilia then went on to study at the University of São Paulo (USP),where she earned a master's degree in history in 1982 and a doctorate in history in 1987.

Academic Career

Lilia Moritz Schwarcz began her academic career as a professor at USP in 1987. She quickly rose through the ranks and became a full professor in 1995. In addition to her teaching duties, Lilia has also held numerous visiting positions at universities around the world, including Yale University, Harvard University, and the University of Oxford.

Lilia's research has focused on the history of slavery, race, and gender in Brazil. She has published numerous books and articles on these topics, and her work has been widely praised for its originality and insight. Lilia's work has helped to shed light on the dark history of slavery in Brazil, and she has been a vocal advocate for racial and gender equality.

In addition to her academic work, Lilia has also been a vocal critic of the current political climate in Brazil.
